Kitsch???

Kitsch???
What is kitsch??
Kitsch is a loanword from German. It imitates an artwork in its own way and turn it into something amusing although some people might think its nothing...
This is an example of kitsch.

History Of Art and Design

MJ's statue, entrance of Hard Rock cafe, Penang
Abraham Lincoln memorial, Washington. DC

The first picture is statue of Michael Jackson. It duplicates the ideas from the statue of Abraham Lincoln in Washington DC. The architect uses Greek style to decorate the memorial of Abraham Lincoln. This MJ's statue somehow duplicate some Greek culture because it is almost the same as the original statue of Abraham Lincoln.

Sample of Egypt era pillar
Pillar of Marrakesh Morocco area, Sunway Pyramid

The second picture is taken in Sunway Pyramid along the Marrakesh Morocco area. This picture shows one of the pillar in the mall is encrypted with Egyptian hieroglyphics. We uses hieroglyphics as a decoration is because of its unique characteristics. The hieroglyphics on the pillar is not the original hieroglyphics but they replace it to something like we know. For example, camera. I remember I went to Sunway Pyramid and saw there's a camera hieroglyphic on the big pillar at the main entrance of the mall. This mean that we uses more simple icon to represent a thing exactly like what the Egyptians are doing in the past.

Egyptian's pyramid
Twin Tower, KL, Msia

The third picture is our Malaysians' pride, the Twin Tower. We can see that the design of the Twin Tower and the pyramid is almost the same. It has layers which the bottom layer of the building is the largest and eventually it became smaller when it goes further up high. It is designed this way so that our building look tall and stable. The Twin Tower is one of the sky-scrapper in Malaysia. It is the symbol of our country. We can easily find these pictures of Twin Tower almost everywhere.

Sarawak's Post Office

The fourth picture is taken in Sarawak. It is the main post office in Sarawak. The pillars of this building uses the elements from Greece. The pillar of the building shows the unique of its building by adding some classical elements on that pillars. Besides that, it is designed high to show the standard of its building.

My first assigment

PLS, Violin(crosshatching), 2011

This is my first drawing assignment. I know my drawing isn't that good so i'm not going to boast about it. Ms Lo said my drawing lack of highlights and toning. Yeah... I sensed that too...
But i still can't improved my drawing. Well..... I've retouched my drawing and it's getting better than the previous one... The previous one really looks like a kindergarten's drawing...><" At least, my drawing has improved throughout this semester and i hope i'll continue improving...
Frankly, my first drawing looks like a trash in a bin.... Hahaha...
That's all for today.. Sorry for updating this because i don't know what to update in my blog.... Mianhamnida(Sorry)...

My Views...

Dr Ray asked:
What do I want from this course?
What do I want to be doing in 5 years, 10 years or 20 years?
What do I hope to get from this class?
Do I think is History of Art & Design necessary for me as a student's larger goals

I really never thought of these when i first choose this course. Maybe its because i love drawing, even though i never really learn how to draw...
What i want from this course??? For me, its simple.... I want to know what is my specialties is... Am i good in drawing or in designing things... All this is important to me because i'm a person with high expectation...
I might be a little lazy but i love my job to be 100% perfect.
What do i want to be doing in 5 years??? Graduate from university and start to find a new job... Or might as well continue my studies while working...
What do i want to be doing in 10 years??? I'll have a job maybe with high paid, or i 'll have my own gallery...
Or maybe i'll have my own studios....
What do i want to be doing in 20 years??? I never had that in my mind... It way beyond my imagination... But, i can tell you what i want to be in 20 years if i think it thoroughly... I want the whole world to know my name.... Hahaha... Am i too ambitious????
What do i hope to get from this class??? Hmm... This question kinda hard for me to explain because i hated history so much during my secondary school... I even failed once in my assessment... Well, i do hope i can get more knowledge about arts from this class whereas i never learned such thing in my secondary or high school... I found out that this class is interesting for me because i really loves arts so much even i couldn't imagine it...

Do I think is History of Art & Design necessary for me as a student's larger goals??? As for me, i'm a graphic design student. So based on my view, i think that History of Arts and Design is necessary for me to achieve my larger goals no matter how or what it takes... History is important to everyone... Without history, you'll like a person without the past...
I've answered all the questions. I'm still not satisfied with all my answers, but i will think about this several questions and answered it again with a more perfect answer which i will satisfied with it. That's all for now... Adios^_^
